High Oil Pressure reading on Oil Guage

Hi All, I am a newbie to Porsche and this forum and my dream of owning a porche has just come true after 30 years of blood sweat and tears. I recently purchased a 2005 997 Carrera S. On studying my maitenance guides I noticed my oil pressure guage reads a higher oil pressure at relatively low revs (3500-4000). At hot idle it comes back to about 3 on the guage, but when the revs are up around the 3500-4000 range my guage gets to 5.

I am wondering based on your experiances if this is a problem? Thank you.

The indicated oil pressure on the gauge will increase or decrease based upon oil viscosity, oil temperature, rpm's and engine load, so the fact that your pressure is increasing as you go from idle to 3500-4000 rpm's is normal.

Although yours is a 2005, the owner's manual for a 2009 997 only calls for a minimum of 3.5 bar at 5000 rpm, but makes no mention of a maximum pressure.

mine almost always runs at 5 during normal driving and the will drop to 3ish at a traffic light. lots of threads on this. I don't worry.

from an ergonomic point of view, they should have increased the span of the gauge instead of riding at 5/max all the time

Runs at 5 while driving and 3 at idle.
