996 Carrera 4S Routing cable from engine bay (rear lights) to cabin

Hi all,

I have just purchased a 2003 996 Carrera 4S (my first ever Porsche!). The car is fantastic and I want to keep it looking that way, I am happy to admit I am not great at judging distances out of the back of the car so have decided to fit parking sensors.

I have found an excellent article on removing the rear bumper but the problem I am having is working out how to route the cable for the parking buzzer from the rear bumper into the cabin of the car. I was hoping I could access it via the rear light area, I removed both rear light units last night and was presented with three grommets behind each light unit, two are simply blanking grommets and one is used to route the cable for the tail light bulbs.

I removed both unused grommets and directed a light beam through them hoping I would see the light through the vents right at the rear of the parcel shelf inside the cabin but that was not the case!

Can anyone assist with how I can route the cable into the cabin please, I've checked all the diy articles (which are fantastic) but can't find one addressing my query.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps this will help some - the factory routing (all Porsches have factory custom wiring harnesses).

Thanks for the response and for welcoming me to the forum! So it looks like there is an access point on the right hand side of the car, I will have to investigate.

That's great, very helpful, something I have actually been looking for, but its apparently hidden behind some javascript popup. I would like very much to have the file, and be able to print it etc. The help says to use the download tab at the top of any page, and I see no downloads tab. Searching in the downloads listing under the documents menu for "sensors" and "sensors.png" brings no joy. Does the help mean "document menu" when it says "downloads tab"?

What insanely obvious overly simple step am I missing?

It is an image so you should be able to see it and expand it as long as your browser supports JavaScript. All modern forums use JavaScript to reduce load times.

What OS and what brand browser are you using - we have tested with most all of them.
