I have a 2002 boxster and would like to replace the key with a aftermarket flip style key which also has remote lock, unlock and boot release built in. I intend to remove the transponder from the exsiting key and put it in the new one then wire the new control box into the central locking loom.

Is there any obvious reason this won't work? Has anyone done it before and got the wiring diagram?

Does your car already have a remote or not? If not, then you are in the same situation I was in. I fitted a aftermarket remote. It's not hard. See my post here.

I've connected the system as you described and it works however when the car is locked via Brown/White it can't be unlocked with via Brown/Red after about five minutes. It appears the alarm automatically kicks after a few minutes and stops it being unlocked via that wire. Its been mentioned in not to connect to the dashboard switch, why is that?

I don't know how to override the factory alarm module. My car doesn't come with one.

The dashboard switch on mine would lock and unlock the doors, but doors locked via the switch is not secure. It can't be opened from the outside, but can be opened by pulling the inside handle twice. So if your top is dropped, someone can just reach in and open the doors. I don't know if having an alarm module makes any difference to this.
