trailer hitch adapter and coding

Hi everyone. I have a 2004 cayenne that has the towing receiver on it and a cover over the electrical connector. Can anyone verify if the plug from the dealer to make it accept a standard trailer adapter needs to be coded to the car or if it is a plug and play process? My local dealer has told me it does need coding, but a online dealer told me that it will be plug and play.

I have the same truck and tried to tow a UHaul trailer a couple of months ago. Yes you do need to have your Cayenne programed to use it.

If you have the factory harness and control module it needs to be programmed so it's recognized by the vehicles systems but once programmed you just need to purchase the wiring adaptor for your trailer.
