Cruise Control / Brake Switch

Hi, hopefully someone can help me!

I have a 2004 Cayenne Turbo, I have (which seems to be) a common problem in that the cruise control is not working, i can change drive mode from P to D etc. without pressing the brake pedal. On reading the forum I can see that earlier versions have a brake light switch, located above the brake pedal under the dashboard, that typically needs replacing.

However, I do not have such a part, where the brake light switch should be there is nothing there and its just empty where the part would normally be housed. Therefore this would indicate either the brake light switch is maybe elsewhere or the problem is as a result of something else.

Can someone please help and point me in the right direction as to possible the location of the switch or another solution to the problem?

thanks, but as i said in the other thread i do not have a brake light switch under the dash...

so i still have this problem and there is no switch to replace under the dashboard.

Loren, thanks for that but as stated i've already checked and my car does not have a brake light switch.

The late 2004 and onwards do not have a brake light switch as per your diagram. I believe the replacement is the brake pressure sensor which is situated under the brake master cylinder, quite an awkward position in the engine bay - however normally if that is faulty warning lights are displayed on the dashboard.

I have no warning lights, my brake lights are working perfectly normally - i can start the engine without pressing the brake pedal and the cruise control does not operate.

Any other ideas?

Are the wires there and the switch missing.

Loren, i took a good look and there were no wires or anything that seemed to be missing. i've replaced these switches before on my old Mercedes so i know what im looking for, my version simply does not have one... with the brake lights still working fine, it validates the brake sensor switch's operation.

But I'm not convinced its this part at fault due to the brakes and the lights working fine...

With all due respect Porsche does not a put a diagram in "their" service manual of a part that does not exist.

Perhaps a second opinion from a Porsche shop?

So your car is really a MY05 and the stop light control is provided by the ABS/PSM system.
