Hi guys,

My '99 boxster's tiptronic is slipping in 3rd gear. Reverse, 1st and 2nd gear shift properly, but when engaging 3rd gear it just slips, the car only revs and can

drive around 20-30mph.

I took the car to the dealer and they did a service (filter, ATF, gasket change) and the problem still persists. They say there are no faulty codes. Any ideas?

I've read about solenoids not working properly but they don't report any codes. But before attempting something else, can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Does it slip in both "M" and "D?" Have you tried disconnecting the battery then reconnecting it?

Thanks for the reply.

It slips in both modes. Now we have two codes P1411 and P0410. I suspect it is the coolant changeover valve, since the codes belong to the Vacuum system and

the tip is not working correctly. Not sure if the valve makes the tip slip.

The vacuum valve is only for controlling coolant flow to the heat exchanger. I would suspect you have a control solenoid leaking hydraulic pressure or a broken sealing ring for a clutch pack. What was the condition of the old oil and filter?

The oil was really dark and dirty, kinda brownish, no metalish stuff.

Still have to call dealer for diagnostic today. But need advice?

The control arm from right wheel broke before,

Replaced it and the first codes where 3rd

And 4th gear ratio incorrect. Deleted the codes

And haven't reappeared. Only the codes explained

Before.

Thanks wvicary! Do you know how to identify the bad solenoid? I have read that some faulty solenoids don't report a code, but the solenoid doesn't work properly.

If it is a broken seal, I suspect there should be rubber part in the oil, right?

Thanks.
