It is inside the fuel tank - and Porsche says under normal use it never needs replacing.

If for some reason you need to replace it (contamination) then realize that you will also likely need to re-calibrate the fuel level sensor (which is a real PITA).

thankyou.gif Thanks Loren, thats what I heard. However it makes no sense at all. In my other cars I have it changed every 40K miles or so,

so why does such a fine car as a 911 have a filter that you cannot change ? Lifetime filter ? thats like the lifetime coolant they put in these 2002 911's

another ridiculous thing, that your not suppose to ever change your engine coolant ? What are these engineers in Stuttgart thinking soapbox.gif

I wonder if there is an answer to both the above ? It just does not make any sense to me, how about anyone else ? Cheers Dave...

Here is there comment and diagram from the 2002 Tech Book...

"The fuel filter is integral in the tank unit and no longer requires changing. A reduction in deliver rate can be detected via the mixture adaption."

The fuel system changed to a returnless type in 02 negating the need for a fuel filter. The coolant is lifetime because the bottle or water pump will go out before the maintenance interval would be reached anyways.

This is a 3 year old post that you responded to?

There is indeed a fuel filter on MY02 and later 996 series cars. The fuel filter is in the gas tank and in normal operating (barring contamination) it does not need changing. But it can be changed if needed - but that will also require a re-calibration.
