I am a new Boxster 2001 owner with 15K miles. I noticed the car requires more effort going from first to second gear when the car is cold. Is this normal? BTW, it requires zero effort moving from 2nd to 3rd gear when cold.

tks, mdh

I have thiss issue as well only in cold weather which has just come recently in Houston. I would imagine it is worse in colder areas.

i was told by the local dealer this is normal and I've had this with other manual cars. BUT, i don't understand why it only pertains to second gear.... sometimes my brain looks for problems that don't exist.

This seems to be a common complaint with the 6 speed and a less than common complaint with the 5 speed. I have never noticed this on my 5 speed. Never noticed this on the many 6 speeds I have driven, but they were not stone cold.

You might want to try flushing the clutch(brake ) fluid out and changing the gearbox oil. It really made a difference on our 01 (2.7 wt 39k). Good luck with the car.

I had this on my 6-speed new from factory. After 6 months I would find myself grinding gears once a month shifting into 2nd. After 11 months and 11,600 miles it jumped out of 2nd gear twice and the dealer replaced the transmission under warrantee.

Replacement transmission has not had any trouble in 30,000 more miles. Under extreme cold conditions (1st 3 blocks at 20F degrees) sometimes feels balky going into ANY gear.

Your experience may vary - just wanted to share the decline and fall of my original transmission.
