Replacing 993 Engine trays with the Engine installed

Hi

Has anyone replaced the engine trays in a 993 manual coupe, with engine still installed?

The trays are the internal back tray Part No. 993 106 214 06 and the right tray 993 106 289 10?

As the tray in my car are damaged and it seems lihe too much troubl to remove the engine for such a little issue.

Are you referring to the lower and side engine covers? They can easily be removed with the engine in place.

I am refering to the rear and right side engine trays that are around the engine at the lowest point, but in the engine compartment.

What has to be removed to replace these two trays?

I could send you a photo, if the explaniation is still not clear.

To do the rear engine tray, did you have to remove the rear bumper, rear heat shield and exhaust system?

or what parts are needed to be removed ?

The engine was removed about 6 months ago to fix a few things, but the engine trays where not replaced.

I entered the car in a concourse last week end and the judge commented that the engine trays where damaged, so I wanted to replace them, but not remove the engine again.

I don't why you think you need to remove the engine to remove these panel. They are held in place using 6mm bolts on a 10mm socket head. Just remove the bolts and then the panels.

The reason I thought there was need to remove the engine, as the engine shop that removed the engine before,

said that the engine had to be removed to replace the engine trays, and this was Porsche.

Maybe they want the work and can charge more if they say the engine needs to be removed.

I will replace the engine trays myself.

What the manual stats to remove and what you actually need to remove are two different things. I like to take off the least amount of parts as possible to do a job and seem to be able to remove things others can't. A perfect example is the park brake switch on the Boxster- others remove the centre console to replace the switch and replace it without removing the console.

I use a long 24" 1/4 inch drive with a thin walled universal socket to reach the retaining bolts on the engine trays. Best of luck.

Can you "please" tell me what other parts had to be remove from the 993 to remove the rear engine tray?

The engine trays can be replaced without removing the engine.

Only need to remove the rear bumper and heat shields.
