The plastic window in my 2001 S finally cracked on the side. I want to remove the top to have it repaired, but I need some input and opinions. I've read all the various topics on removal, plus I have the manual describing it so that should be good.

1. Once removed, will the top fold down flat like when it is installed insitu? (I want to ship it to a place for repair that I know has done this (install new plastic window) before and pick it up a week or so later when I will be there in my SUV)

2. Once the top is removed, can I then lower the lid back to the closed position?

3. Could I drive the car if needed, or will I get a myriad of codes, etc.

Anything else to be concerned with?

Thanks

Dan

Dan:

1. Yes.

2. Yes.

3. Yes (and you will not get codes).

As for other concerns, be careful when you close the clamshell again. If your front pushrods are then dangling, make sure that they don't dig into the foam drain trays as the V-levers go through their rotation. If those trays rip or get torn, water will get into the cabin, where it will promptly fry your central alarm computer ($$$$).

Regards, Maurice.

Thanks Maurice for the input and headsup. Just what I needed to know.

It is very much appreciated,

Having done this a couple times,

I would make some sort of plastic or hard cardboard liner to lay on top of the drain tray so that

it cannot be perferated for pulling and installing the top
