Im new to this site and hope someone can shed some light on my issues.. I have a 2005 cayenne base. 3.2 v6 6 speed manual... the check engine light comes and goes daily.. today the car was running real rough.. then the light came on.. I got 4 trouble codes. p0016 p0300 p0303 p0305... the car lacks power all the time.. any help will be greatly appriciated. sm

P0016 Position of inlet camshaft vis-a-vis crankshaft (in V8: bank 1) – above limit value/below limit value

Possible cause of fault

- Timing set incorrectly

- Chain extended

- Inlet camshaft loosened

- Rotor of inlet camshaft sensor (in V8: bank 1) in incorrect position

- Inlet camshaft sensor (in V8: bank 1) not installed correctly

The P03xx codes could be related but are likely ignition coils that are cracked and need to be replaced.

Don't worry about the camshaft codes right now, I have seen misfires cause these codes. I would buy the newest updated parts from the dealer and change the spark plugs at the same time. Also inspect the weather seal at the fire wall that seal against the hood, it can become dislodged and allow water onto the engine which can damage the rear cylinders 5 and 6 ignition coils.

After the new parts are installed, clear all codes,road test the vehicle and clear any codes that might have occurred such as O2 sensor or catalytic convertor codes. You often get false code due to contamination in the cats from the misfires and it might take several drive cycles for anything to show up again.

Hi again,,, today I changed all 6 plugs, to some laser expensive plugs at $12.00 each.. I also changed all 6 coil packs... its running on all 6 now,,, had the codes erased also. Ive never owned one of these before, but all i know is that this one is dead slow.. no sack at all.. throttle response is dead after the first 25% of movement... are all these non turbos slouches? thanks

Glad to see you have it firing on all six! The 6 cylinder is not known for its power so I would not expect much. I am not sure what all is possible by tuning/modding them. The S series with the V8 is more than adequate for power, our 04' absolutely rips. Not quite that of a turbo but 340HP does the job nicely IMO.

If you want more power ( lot more) you need to trade it for a V8 or a Turbo.

A chip on a normally aspirated car is a waste of money IMHO. Regardless of what they "promote" many folks lose HP and/or torque.

Chipping a turbo engine however is a different story...
