Just a few months ago I dropped $4k to fix the known plastic coolant pipe failure in my 04 Cayenne...I was a few thousand miles shy of the 60k service but I had the dealership handle it preemptively. I probed multiple times to see what major failures or expensive services were upcoming, but they swore the car was in good health and no other known issues were down the pike...

The other night, my drive shaft failed at 62k. I see that it's a known issue and I'm furious that no one at Porsche seems to really care. They want $1400 for the repair. UNREAL! I talked to Vertex and they offered the part for around $500. He said any shop can handle that repair.

What do you guys think? What recourse do I have with Porsche? Should I report it to PCNA or is that a waste of time? Should I keep fighting them or have the car towed to my local mechanic? Any local (DC/MD/VA) P-car shop recommendations?

Happened to me as well -- if not under CPO just have an indy mechanic do it and move on. Not worth the time, money and hassle to fight.

The dealer dropped the price to right about a thousand bucks...two year warranty, done tomorrow. Hope nothing major is coming down the pike so I can push this pepper till the end!

You should be in good shape -- and $1k plus warranty is fine, do it and move on. New shaft plus you already took care of the coolant pipes means you should be rolling along with no problems. Until your coil packs fail! :) Mine did but it's a fast and cheap fix.

I have new coil packs and new shaft but not the metal coolant pipes...

PS -- become a contributing member -- it's worth it. The best money I ever spent on my Cayenne was becoming a contributing member on Renntech. ($25)

Thanks for your feedback. I'd love to hear more before I make a decision.

Same scenario here with my '04 CTT. same failure of both the DS and PCNA to help. Got it replaced by local euro shop for just over $1K. He said it is considered a wear item in that it receives and absorbs a tremendous amount of shock when the vehicle is driven as Porsche intended (in our case to break/wear out parts as quickly as possible). I don't plan to waste any more time dealing with PCNA and their dealer network if I can possibly avoid it. They have made it clear to me on numerous occasions that their intent is to not support Cayenne ownership when situations like this arise.

Hi there,

$500 + Shipping + Labor ! is a RIP OFF ! You will end up spending easily $1200.00

My Wife's Cayenne Had a similar Driveshaft problem & the dealer wanted $2000.00 just to fix the Driveshaft.

I bought a Driveshaft Support Bearing Assembly made by Hamburg Technic www.hamburgtechnic.com for $89.99 from DEUTSCHEPARTSUSA (+1917-539-3636) www.deutschepartsusa.net. email; deutschepartsusa@gmail.com.

I had it overnighted to my Mechanic in Northampton,Mass for $60.00 & he Fixed it for $200.00 labor; incl. Greasing the Driveshaft, electronic balancing.

Now the Cayenne Feels like NEW ! even after 62K Miles.

Deutschepartsusa Further recommended & Sold me an OEM Quality Full Front End Kit(Control Arms, Sway bar Links, Tie Rods etc etc) for $799.99 where the Porsche Dealer wanted $3200.00

DPUSA saved me $4050.00 that i would have given to the Porsche dealer in West Springfield, MASS.

No wonder Porsche's the most Profitable Car Maker in % ! RIP OFF ARTISTS !

Driveshaft Support bearing was Super heavy Duty as per my Mechanic, much better that the Original one on Cayenne.

Now my wife's happy & the so are the kids!
