Hello from Italy,

I need of your kind opinion about a strange bad smell from my 997 clutch.

This's my third Porsche, all the time manual (Boxster S, 996 3.4, 997 3.6) and never happened, never felt a bad smell like it.

This afternoon I stopped halfway down a slope. After starting with engine near 3000-max3500rpm (I was furious because I has been fined by a stupid drunk cop, I must pay 380 euro), I smelt clutch bad smell (never felt before today).

I know very well it was the stressed clutch, but IMHO I think it's very strange. I was driving down so starting must be helped by gravity.

But putting aside this detail, I wish to know if a fast (and furious) starting, can generate a great level of clutch overheating and in your expert opinion, if my clutch has suffered damage (I think no).

Thanks in advance for your opinions and experiences.

I think your clutch is OK but I would take it easy for

a few hours.

I know that most Italian drivers drive very fast. I once had a

taxi driver rush me to the airport at 110 mph through a lot

of traffic. It was some small car.
