Hi,

I do you about a lite every 1000Km's but I have heard this is normal in my 2005 turbo. Others will say it's way to high, which I agree, but I'm sure I saw on the PCA forum where this is normal, but I can't find the thread. Does anyone know what "normal" consumption is for these.

Thanks

Bob

I use up about a quart every 1000Miles or so. I add one quart a month. This is what the owners manual say:

My manual says 1.5 quarts every 600 miles is the upper limit, so technically you are fine...

I wouldn't worry about it unless the oil consumption increases.... likely just tolerances of the piston ring pack and bore honing. Just watch for any increases in oil consumption. My non-turbo Cayenne started using a lot more oil at about 40k miles, and had scuffed cylinder bores requiring a new engine.

  • I noticed on mine a lot of smoke comes out of the exhaust if I fully accelerate whilst moving.

oh and I have to put 2 and a half quarts of oil every 600 miles

Now that does sound excessive! What mileage?

My 05 turbo with 129,000 km. uses a litre ever 4,500 km.

I was experiencing the same level of consumption - I kept going to the deal and they kept telling me it's normal and the turbo's use a lot of oil. I finally showed the dealer the cloud of smoke on acceleration and along with careful monitoring of oil consumption they worked with PCNA to make a determination to replace the engine under CPO. I still don't have a crisp diagnosis of what was actually going on but I'm glad PCNA stood behind the engine. '06 CTTS with 57k on it.

I have a 2012 turbo with power kit. I have just finished about 1600 mile trip going from Chicago area to Mississippi. I bought a couple of quarts of Mobile 1 as there had been much talk about oil usage in the turbos. I went no more than 10-20 mph more than the speed limit. As I am breaking the car in with Porsche's recommended method [not more than 4200 rpm for first 2000 miles], I have not gotten really 'on it' per se. Cruising at or about 70 mph +- 5 mph I was getting 24mpg. I have had no oil consumption as far as the oil level on the car can indicate. My guess is that if you are not really into the turbos, your oil consumption will not be very much. After the break in period, I will be using more speed and rpm [that is why I got it]. I will post more data on oil consumption then. I wonder how many of our group really stuck to the break in period? There must be a reason Porsche is so particular with the break in period. I did the same thing with my BMW M3 when I had it and had minimum oil consumption despite how hard I got on it.

I noticed that too after driving easy for a few hundred miles. I had no oil consumption. I guess it is normal for these turbos to consume so much oil when I drive hard on them.

i burn about 1 quart every 2500miles......i have a 2004 CTT. with 8 cylinders, it is expected that you will burn some oil.....the scraper rings are not 100% sealing. when you drive in vacuum (not accelerating) the condition become worse.....there is less combustion pressure forcing the rings out to seal on the walls.

as for the burning oil on full acceleration....at first i thought it was a bearing seal on one of the turbos, but when i discovered was that on the driver side intercooler (same side as the oil breather) fills with oil over time from the case vapors.....

once i emptied mine out, no more black smoke on acceleration.

When I replaced my secondary converters with bypass pipes, I noticed the exhaust pipe on the right side had a lot more carbon and was darker than the left exhaust pipe coming from the motor. Hmmmm
