I've looked at filters from several different "names" like Purolator, K&N, etc, and the Porsche branded. Interestingly, looking at the markings on the filter they *all* came from the same manufacture / plant in Germany.

I think this is one of the cases where there's not enough sales volume to support someone domestically making them and all these guys just buy from the source and resell them.

The bonus is that several of these domestic "names" can be had for a lot less. Same filter, less money.

If you want a better made filter with molded plastic end caps and cage, finer pore size and at a lower price, look at the Wix/NAPA Gold 57211:

Here is a comparison between the $8 Mann and the $31 Porsche in my opinion the Mann is better made and more filter area.
