I did a search and couldn't find any info on what type of coolant to use on a 06' 997 3.6. I know Porsche coolant is crazy $$$. The level in my car is right at min so I just need to top it off. Is there a Prestone or other name brand that is capatible with what came in the car? Is the orange prestone DEX-COOL good to use? Thanks for any info.

Hi,

It has been covered on this site quite a bit. Try this link : Click Here

Also, if you just need to top off a little, you may just try some distilled water if it is not very low. You can get that at the grocery store...Not Tap Water.....Distilled water.

Good luck.

The Audi coolant is compatible with Porsche and MUCH cheaper.. Do a search here and you will find the details ( Ithink it's called G4.) DO NOT mix Prestone or other coolant. It can gel and cause all kinds of problems.

The factory coolant is readily available for about $22-24/gal (retail) by a board sponsor (Sunset). It is a well known product that demonstrated excellent performance with no problems (as long as it isn't mixed with some of the aftermarket stuff that leads to gelling). Why would you bother looking for something else?

Unfortunately, that is not known to positively be the case to my knowledge. I've seen several claims that Audi/VW/Mercedes/BMW/other brands (choose one or more….) coolants are the same; what I have never seen is a lab analysis to support the claim….just suppositions………and and the associated potential risks..

Some have had good luck using non-OEM coolants, others have not been so lucky. Considering the consequences if you are wrong, why take the risk over a few bucks?
