To all the savvy Porsche owners. I have a query that it seems even some centres cant work out the answer to. I have a 2002 911 996 and would like to swap the side mirrors to the more sporty looking mirror (in my opinion) as I have seen on one model the 2005 911. I have attached pictures of the two to assist in my query. My question is 'will these side mirrors fit my 2002 model and will it be a simple swap over' including electrics etc. I dont think many will know the answer but thank you for anyone that can assist.

I can't answer your question, I'm afraid, but I have seen these "997 Look" mirror casings for the 996. Rather expensive though: http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod8538/Exterior-Mirrors-Housings-997-Look-for-Porsche-996---986/ .

The external mirror parts for a 997 (which all have 997 numbers, so probably not interchangeable with 996 parts) would cost around 400.00 GBP per side, plus the internals, and then you would have to sort out the wiring - in particular the switches.

I have a feeling they would work just fine. I can't see Porsche doing a complete redesign of the mount points and electronics with the aesthetic changes.

Thanks guys I appreciate your help. After some research I can see the 997 mirror is a 2 part mirror.Best way I guess is to compare the chart internals and sizes of the units and determine if worthwhile otherwise could be an expensive experiment. All the best.

I have heard it can be made to work... but the wiring has been changed, and though you can move the mirrors with the little directional pad in the cockpit, it moves in different positions than expected.

hope that helps.

Based on taking apart both my 997 and 986 doors, I think the mount points are the same incl. the harness and the only parts you'll need are the 2-piece mirror assembly and the door trim. A caveat: The new mirrors make a nasty whistle with the window down that I never had in my boxster with the old style, and the Boxster's profile doors-forward is the same as the 996. Best of luck and post pics of your swap if you're brave enough to dive in!
