To the Renntech forum:

My 1998 Boxster, buyed in EEUU, Since it sat and the engine was not started at all, the battery drained completely. Luckily, the door could be opened with the key. I tried to open the front hood to access the battery and that’s when I found that the electronic switch, next to the driver seat, was not operating to release the hood latch. Can someone suggest a solution?

I have read my owners manual, that shows you how to apply power to the fuse box so that you can open up the front hood, but My Boxster haven´t

Can somen one help me

Thanks

Your car is in "locked" mode.

Open the door, apply power through the cigarette lighter and unlock the door with the key.

Lock and unlock a couple of times.

Now open the front trunk.

Happy Boxstering,

Pedro

There is a wire lach under the passager headlight, accessed throught the wheel well cover. This happend to me a few months ago, I called the dealership and told me that the lach was under the drivers side (your might be) and after not finding one i decided to take a look under the passager side. Sure it was there just pull it with a pair of pliers and that's it

I didn't know '98's had an electronic switch I thought it was a manual wire from the latch release next to the seat. At any rate if you go through the wheel well on the passenger side to access the emergency trunk wire once you get the trunk open and get a new battery take the time to remove the passenger side head light and re route the wire to the tow eye hole behind the tow bolt plug on the front of the bumper. Next time you have to do this all you've got to do is remove the plug to access the wire and not have to deal with the shroud in the wheel well.

The 98 doesn't have an electric switch, it's manual (cable) as you point out.

But, when the car is locked it also locks the levers for the trunks, thus you cannot open them.

By locking and unlocking the car a few times, it'll release the levers and the trunks can be opened.

It's good to know where the emergency cable is, but in this case he doesn't need it.

I had a dead battery in February and used the key in the door lock to open the door. It opened the first time and I was able to open the front hood with no problems once the door was open. Will your door open using the key in the lock? If so, as pointed out, you should be able to open the front hood. If not then you will have to access the emergency cable.

There's a good bit of cable there. I relocated mine to inside the tow hook receiver. It's hidden under the plug, and a heck of a lot easier to access in the event of a failure.
