Is it under the drivers side seat? If so, how do I remove the seat?

Ninsei:

If it's the same as a Boxster (and I think it is), the alarm control module is under the driver's seat (left side U.S. cars).

To remove it, you must unscrew four bolts to release the two seat rails. A torx socket is the proper tool for those bolts, but you can usually get them off with a 1/4 inch drive, good quality 10mm socket.

There are two bolts at the front, which are easily accessible if you slide the seat all the way back. The other two bolts, at the rear, can be reached if you slide the seat all the way forward.

There is a large electrical connector under the seat, which is a little tricky to undo but straightforward if you study it closely. If you want to avoid getting an airbag light (or don't have a Durametric, PST2 or PIWIS to reset it), do not disconnect that connector. The electrical leads are long enough to allow you to set the seat down beside the car, just over the rocker panel.

Once you have the seat out, there is a connector at the rear of the unit, and you can remove the unit by unscrewing by 90 degrees the one hold-down plastic phillips screw.

Here is a photo of the unit showing the alarm connector and the one hold-down screw:

When you do it, maybe you can confirm for everyone that it is indeed the same on a 996 as a Boxster.

Regards, Maurice.
