Cayenne S HID

Can anyone tell me why aftermarket HID low beam headlights will not work in the new Cayennes? They come on initially for about a minute then they shut off with a dash warning to "check left (or right) dipped beams". Is there computer monitoring of the current flow to the headlights that indicates that lhe bulbs are 'not working'?

The car didn't have factory xenons and retrofitting the factory units are cost prohibitive.

Yes there is a control unit for the lights. Sorry I can't recommend or answer your question about aftermarket lighting.

Older Cayenne's have the same problem, you have to install resistors in the wiring to compensate (and also foul the fault control box) the difference in current flow between Halogen and HID. I have no further info, but this is the way to go IMHO.

I tried for a few years to get this to work. The main issue I had was the AUTO ON headlights, the instructions say to only switch the HID lights on when the engine is running due to the high starting power requirements. With auto on headlights as soon as you start the the engine in the right light conditions the lights come on and that shortens the life or kills the bulbs.

I tried turning my lights to the full off position (most of the time I remembered) but even with the most expensive kits I was seeing failures way to often to make them worthwhile.

I ended up switching back the the brightest halogens I could get my hands on.

I made the decision when I purchased the car from new that I prefered the Air Suspension to the Xenons and have not regretted that, i would still not trade one over the other.

Thanks again. I have installed PIAA halogens but they are not quite as illuminating but will have to do.
