Hello again,

My 2005 987 is becoming a dog!. (29000 miles)

In the last 500miles I've had to have replaced a hazard warning switch, ignition module and rear springs. (£1000 ($1500) poorer)

Having just has the rear springs replaced by the main dealer, on the drive home I now have an oil level sender failure indication.

I have run the durametric tester and it confirms this fault.

How easy is it to replace the oil-level sender myself?

Any help/advice appreciated

I was going to have a shop replace the sender. On the way to the shop

to drop the car off, the sender worked fine.

A few months later I changed the oil and the sender stopped

working for a few days.

The trick is the sender can not be bent when you install it.

This will require you to remove the intake manifold most likely

on the passenger side.

I had a quote for about $400 to replace it.

Note that my car is a Carrera S.

I've managed to take a few pictures of the area, I it looks like rodent damage to the wiring! OMG........

Sad to say this is not the first occurrence of rodent damage (they like the wires under the battery too).

what is the best way to proceed?

A repair or new engine wiring harness?

What's the cost of a engine wiring harness replacement?

That will depend on whether the damage is part of a sub-harness or the main car harness.<br style="font-size: 18px; line-height: 22.5px;">The main car harness could take a week or so replace. It is a lot of work.

Hopefully you just need one of the sub-harnesses.

The latest part number for all MY2005 and 2006 987-1 is: 987.607.001.06 Engine Wiring Harness -- (are you sitting down) US MSRP $1289.33  plus install labor.

Just repair the wiring. Its no big deal. A pair of wire strippers, soldering gun, heat shrink, and a length of loom to cover the damage. easy peasy. I would disconnect the battery first.I assume that the plug is ok and you know which colors go where.

made a temporary repair just to check out the sender and any other problems.

sender problem is still there so will replace that first.

$1239 (jeepers) means £1250 GBP plus labour at £120 GBP an hour..............

I think i will have to check my insurance to see if it will cover the full repair

Argh, I have a lot of rodents at my place, often in my garage. My alarm has gone off more than once when it senses them scurrying about.

I guess I'll have to pull out the box of live traps.

Side story: my wife put the cat in the garage to find the mice, so of course he found that a boxster top is the best cat hammock ever made.
