Yellow brake calipers = Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) -- very expensive option (you could buy a Hyundai for the price ;) ), but the latest race technology.

Silver brake calipers = were used on the C4 (nothing special the same brakes as the red or black brakes (on Carreras)).

Red brakes calipers = were used on the S models (nothing special the same brakes as theTurbos - which are larger and have more pistons).

Some folks have put the red brakes from the Boxster S on a Carrera - in this case they are the same as the silver and black brakes - only the color is different.

On the GT3 you got red brakes which were a larger and had more pistons than the Carrera brakes. PCCB was an option on GT3.

I have both order guides and brochures from 2004 that show yellow calipers were option # CRFT @ $3825.00.

This was a separate option from the PCCB's (which got yellow calipers anyway), that just colored the calipers with the regular CI rotors.

Loren: If the Red Brakes are the same as the Black, then why are the pads and the rotors diffferent and cost about 50% more.

Sorry, to confuse you.

The red brakes on 996 Carrera's would only be on C4S - which are Turbo brakes. So in this case they are different.

I added and corrected my original post - thanks for pointing that out.
