Hello

I have recently bought a 2005 Cayenne and the Satnav is using an out of date DVD 997.642.235.03. I managed to find a more recent Navigation DVD (997.642.255.04) on eBay. Reading in the forums I understand that I would need to upgrade the firmware on the unit before I can use any updated DVDs.

I would be grateful if anyone could advise me on the upgrade process. The car has the Bose amplifier and Navigation units. Please find attached some screenshots of the current software versions.

Thank you

Regards,

Alex

PS I found two multimedia update CDs on the web, would these be suitable? I am listing the associated directories/timestamps

IIRC you just put the updated DVD in and it should prompt you for and update that is already on the disc. If you call your local dealer they can tell you exactly because Nav updates is a common request.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the system does not seem to be able to read the new DVD.

I think that the firmware of the PCM needs to be updated first before you can read the new DVD format.

Could someone please advise?

Alex

Hi,

your PCM unit version shows 04202xxx, e.g. should be model level A, but the SW versions shows 1.0, indicating model level Standard. I guess your model level is somewhere between Standard and A (SW versions 2.x).

New DVD Navigation discs (maps 08.2007 or 08.2009) are compatible with PCM 2.1 Multimedia model levels B and C only.

Thereafter, you have to update PCM 2.1 Multimedia unit up-to the model level B (SW versions 3.x / PCM unit 05024xxx) at least. Navigation system update CD and Navigation maps DVD are common for 955- and 997- kits.

Thereafter, you need either individual PCM 2.1 Multimedia model level A (first step) and B (next step) update CDs for CAYENNE, or similar CD set from 955- kit (e.g. for CAYENNE). Update process can be complicated, because Bose Amplifier and CD units may require additional repair kit CDs (if update CD are not from the latest kit release). I strongly recommend to find someone experienced, or at least to study corresponding TSB (installation and conversion instructions).

FWIW, there is now a 5/2013 Navigation DVD update available. I posted the part number in another thread earlier this year. If you purchase the update from a vendor such as Suncoast Porsche, they send you the entire box that a Porsche dealer receives - that includes the firmware update discs you may need as well as the new maps DVD. Follow the steps in the TSB as someone said, and you'll be good to go. My PCM2.1 is up-to-date as of May 2013; when I bought my Cayenne back in March of this year, the DVD map disc installed was the one that was in it when the car sold as new back in 2006 and my house wasn't even on the map. It was that old . . .

My 2005 Cayenne S is PCM2.1 Level A and needs to upgrade to Level B. The 2006 PCM2.1 is Level B and supports MP3 audio that my 2005 Level A doesn't. Does anyone know is MP3 supported if upgrade a 2005 PCM2.1 Level A to B? and is there any different of the PCM operation & features after updated the firmware of the PCM2.1 from A to B?

No, after researched and was told MP3 is not supported for 2005's PCM, even upgraded to Level B. So I just hold off and still using my original map disc from 2004.
