ok guys, my hand break light on my dash went out about 8 months ago. so i searched the forum and tried pulling the hand break rigorously few time and that fixed the problem. but just last week same thing happened again and this time pulling the hand break repeatedly did not fix the problem. so i thought for sure the microswitch has gone bad. so i switched out the microswitch. but that did not fix the problem. my break light on the dash still not on hence the convertible top not operating.

i have not yet putting the center console back just in case this is something else i need to check. so please help. what is the problem and what is my next step?

thanks in advance.

The switch has a small 2 wire electrical connector to it. Remove the connector from the replacement switch and see it you can jump it with something small like a paper clip. Report back.

sorry it took me a while to get back.

i tried the paper clip thing by removing the connector/wires and still no brake light on dash.

what can i check next?

I would pull the gauges first and fix the lamp so that you know if the problem is with the switch: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/90-ELEC-996_Cluster/90-ELEC-996_Cluster.htm

You can also check the switch at the fuse box without pulling the center console, the pins are listed in my article here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/72-BODY-SmartTop/72-BODY-SmartTop.htm
