Air Cond (bad/damp) smell!

Hello there! Just wondering if you had come across similar situation. Of late, the air cond generates some "damp" smell. It is less bad if the air cond is NOT on recirculation mode. Coud it be that the (cabin?) filter has gone wet and bad? Is this something that can be picked up by PIWIS? Any idea how to overcome this? Cheers.

I had a similar problem until I changed out the cabin air filter. It's an easy swap and may solve your problem...

Change the cabin filter and be sure all the drains are clear. Check in the front cowling/firewall area for any standing water.

There are also quite a few chemicals on the market that you spray in the cowl area with the a/c running to kill any bacteria in the system that could be causing the smell. I've heard good things about the stuff made by Wurth.

Thanks Loren -- I actually successfully changed my interior pollen filter awhile ago (thanks to Renntech posts). What I'm curious about is a possible exterior vent air intake location A previous poster in this thread noted to, "Try spraying frigifresh into intake outside car. Works great."

Is there a vent located on the Cayenne exterior in which I could spray antimicrobial solution?

The intake is on the drivers side under the hood close to the windshield. Put the AC on high and you will hear it, and will be able to follow the noise to it..

Apologize for taking a hitch here. Just got my 06 Cayenne for 2 days. It comes with a 4-zone air-conditioning system.

1) Is there an on/off switch for air-con?

2) When rear passenger exit the car, how can the driver switch off the rear air-con

Yes, you can turn off air conditioning -- just switch to "econ" mode. The owner's manual (which you can download here on Renntech) covers this as well as how to switch off/on zones.

Just got the car back after leaving at the dealer for 2 days to rectify a few things.

As all my previous cars have an on/off switch to turn on/off aircon compressor plus aircon fan together. Will start getting use to using the "econ" to switch off compressor from now.

To turn off the air conditioning completely press down the fan blower toggle switch until the display reads "Off". This shuts off the compressor and the blowers.

Maybe lost in translation, but the 'Mono' feature of the climate control is a great one to know. Push and hold the 'Auto' button(on the front Climate control) in for a few seconds and Mono will appear. This allows the driver's setting to be used throughout all 4 zones.

If you're trying to shut off just the rear, push the button on the front climate control that has the back seat shaded, it will then display what is set in the rear climate system for a few seconds. You can make changes to the rear during the few seconds that the rear only icon is displayed.
