I have looked at all the DYI's for replacing the switch and am a little confused on what switch PN I should use for my '99 Boxster.

4B0 905 839

4A0 905 849 B

Which is the correct one for me?

Thanks,

Bill

Drove the car today and sometimes had problems starting it - key would go all the way to the right, dash lights would light up but the car would not start. other times it worked fine.

Will be replacing the ignition switch tomorrow - will this cure the starting problem?

Thanks,

bill

The Meyle brand is not OEM, and is not a five-star brand at Pelican, FYI. This is a bit of a pain of a job, I would spend a couple extra bucks and get an OEM or better quality part.

As to your question of which switch is needed, the answer is that it depends upon whether your car has been updated with the improved / redesigned steering lock assembly or not. There was a Tech Bulletin out on this fix, and the newer steering locks (which are updatable on the older cars). So, you need to take it out of your car and check it to be absolutely sure. I've got some photos of the process right here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/86-ELEC-Ignition_Switch/86-ELEC-Ignition_Switch.htm along with photos of what the switch looks like.

Hope this helps,

Wayne

Upgraded to later lock assy. When I reinstalled the key lock the release notch moved from 1:00 position to 7:00 (180 out) - will this cause a problem? How do I reindex back to 1:00?

Thanks.

Switch would not snap back to position 0 until I reindexed. All is well now.

Thanks.
