Hi friends, while enjoying a beautiful drive through MD farm country this weekend, my emblem flew off of my hood! It seems fairly simple to replace and was planning to call Sunset today for the part but before I risk a scratch, I figured it wouldbe best to see if anyone has instructions/expereince replacing? If so, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

It is a simple replacement process. Open the hood and locate two nuts right below the emblem. Use a 10mm socket to loosen and remove the nuts. Remove the emblem and gasket. Clean the emeblem area and install new gasket, emblem and tighten two nuts.

Honestly, I have not done the work but by looking at the way the emblem was installed I figure the steps above will work.

Good luck!

Soak the gasket in hot water to make it pliable and fit it over the emblem before putting it onto the vehicle.

After I read your post I checked my hood emblem and found it was quite loose. It may have stayed on for some time, but I am glad to know it is tighter now. To tighten mine required 8mm, and one side would not stop spinning (stripped or no longer fully connected to emblem). But I definitely got it tighter than it was before. Thanks so much!

Glad to have helped. From the looks of the studs remaining in my hood, the bond between the emblem and studs is a weak point. Probably a good idea to keep an eye on it. Also, I ordered a 997 emblem from Jeff at Sunset for about $75 including shipping...a small price to pay to avoid the potential damage if/when it flies off!
