Knocking & Jerking

Hi , 2003, 53 cayenne s , UK. 65,000 miles, good service history, No know other history of problems. owned since Jan 2007 @ 40k miles aprox

SO...here's the problem(S)

its started to jerk while picking up, then after a few weeks it started to jerk and shake, almost like its about to stall in and out of idle. (have engine knocking noise too).

It had a service incl spark plug replacement winter 2009. Well 2 weeks ago i got it into porsche and they replaced 2 coil packs, it seemed to solve it but 2 days ago its all started again.the shakes and knocking seems louder.

Im not that clued up with all this and have checked through some of the threads in these forums.

Has anyone seen/cured these probs?

could it be anything to do with cam sensors? as once a friend with some plug in diagnostic tool got 2 fault codes, i think they were p0011 and other fault was maybe p0021(not 100% sure) but on checking it did say something P0011: Camshaft position Timing over.

any suggestions?

In general the dealers seem to be averse to replacing all coils and plugs any more. I for one would replace the lot because if 1 or two went the rest are not far behind however, the knocking can also be the center bearing on the drive shaft. Certainly the car is the right MY and miles

Hey buddy thanks so much for advice,

Sorry im not too tech with the engine n mechanics, how serious does this seem or get? the guy at Porsche did loads of ums and tuts and errs, mostly about cost and that all this could cost£thousands. If they take the car apart and look for all the faults etc, I don't know ..

Also what would it take to fix bearing on driveshaft. Iv had the car since 2007 n if probs serious I'm worried it might not be worth holding onto if ones expected to replace an entire engine at on 65k miles.

Also whats the possibility of it being cam position sensors, or other electrical fault, today iv also noticed left side aircon is not getting cold, how random!!!!

Man I'm jinxed with this or what.

Well iv got to take it in to porsche in the morning, so any feedback, suggestions and what to say/what not to say etc is more than welcome. Thanks in advance....

Will have to see what porsche say, i dropped the car off this morning. The service manager said they'll "Plug it in and see what turns up",

I'm holding my breath....

thanks for the feedback though, all the info helps so atleast i can sound more clued up at the Porsche centre.

Just got a call off Porsche. Re timing 1st they say. See what happens. They do susspect variocam and also an unknown internalproblem with the engine. Oh boy.

collected car this morning, running smoother, but engine knocking noise is still apparent, they want me to road test it and see what happens.

FIX so far:

Retiming done.

and 1 more coil pack changed.

NOTES:

there may be fault with vario cam and some annymous engine fault which they cant comment on until stripping down car.

Highly doubt it is the fuel pump. Mudman is right, it is probably the other coils.
