I have cracked the rt rear taillight lens on my 2006 911 Carrera S. Should I just "bite the bullet" and pay the dealership to replace or is there a reliable less expensive alternative (e.g. used part) I have friends who do professional collision but have not worked on Porsche.

This is a less than 15 minute job that requires only a 10 mm wrench.

Take the broken lens off - transfer the bulbs to the new lens and reconnect the wiring plugs - reinstall. Done.

You can likely do this yourself.

He's right. It's very easy. Two screws that don't even have to be removed all the way. Push both sides of the connector together then pull leverage clip back. Replace lenses but make sure to adjust the gap in the edges of the light even all the way around. Very easy to do and will save you $50-1xx bucks. Anymore questions just ask away.
