Oil In Spark Plug Well

Well I just removed the everything to find that the coil that was replaced last year by the dealer was the coil that was cracked. All the rest had 03 part #, this one had the 05. The was also oil in the spark plug well. Did they not tighten the spark plug enough or is it the valve gasket. The crappy thing to is that it is the cylinder under the torque support.

Also how are the cylinders #'d, Is it 1-4 back to front passenger side and #5-8 back to front driver side?

I looked at the manual I bought of PorscheLibraian (I forget that I have those) and I guess it is called cam housing and within it there are spark plug gaskets. So I will need to replace the cam houseing gasket / spark plug gasket. It seems straight forward, but my big quesiton is whether the engine needs to be dropped to do this or can I do it with engine in place?

Or did the not torque the bolts correctly last year (16k miles ago)?

you have just to change the cam housing Gasket and everything will be ok .. if you dont fix it fastly u will loose the ingtion coil also !!

Thats to late the coil was ruined when I pulled it out. It came out in2 parts and took me forever to get the bottome part out. I am about to call Sunset today to order the parts, and wanted to know if I just replace just one coil that is shot or all. Plus should I replace all the plugs as well or just the one that this fried. If so, are there any upgraded spark plugs out there or does everyone use OEM. On AutohausAZ has the Beru for $16 and a Bosch for $7 on sale from about $20 each. It says both are OEM but I was not sure if the Bosch but was ok for the Turbo.

you dont have to change all coils.. JUST CHANGE THE BROKEN ONE !! but the Company change 8 coils :S !! and it will be so cost for you .. and about the plugs if the spark plugs new just clean the head and put it again !! but if u want the right way put the new one ;)

You need to find the cause of the oil in the spark plug well.

I would replace any coil packs that are oil soaked and any that are not the latest version (948.602.104.05).

Use a good torque wrench and be very careful not to over torque the coil packs..

Well I had ordered the seals/gasket for the cam housing and all 8 coils. Just one spark plug, they told me the same thing about the rest still being good for anohter 30K miles. The thing is that Sunset sold me coils ending in -07 not 05. Did he sell me the wrong ones? It is for an 04 Turbo.

Now I am looking at the engine and the though of doing the gasket replacement seems daunting. There is very little space in the back to work in, I called the dealer and the dont drop the engine. Don't know whether to try or call my Indy.

Porsche updates parts all the time so I think they likely sold you the correct newest coils.

My parts list was updated the last week in May - dealers get daily updates.

.07 is the latest version of the coils, they apply to all 03 to 06 Cayennes. Engine removal is not necessary for the valve cover job. The screws for the rear of the valve cover are the worst, you'll need to get creative to get those out.

 having some problem,  the lowest cilinder bank had all coils wet with engine oil. I have the original coils still in my Cayenne which i bought 2 weeks ago. 50k miles on it. All 8 of them are cracked. I have already ordered the newest which is 08 or 09 by now. Did you change gasket or find out why there was oil in the spark plug wells?
