Recommended, best clear hood bras for Boxster S?

Hi guys,

Let me first pay homage to the cumulative hacks out there that have saved my *** big $$$! :notworthy:

OK. Now to my question. Does anyone know of aftermarket, clear bras that can be ordered for less money than a dealer-installed option? A local porsche dealer quoted me that it would cost me $800 to have someone do this for my 00' Box S. There's gotta be a cheaper option, does anyone know of any? I do want one that can withstand rock chips; as I live in notorious Colorado...I have seen thin plastic film ones but have no clue as to what brand they are.... any help on this issue would be appreciated.

Trust me, this is not an area you want to skimp on. The results are in the professional installer. Do a search on this topic. I had the same questions last year and couldn't be happier with paying the best in town (does work for the Porsche dealer). Instead of paying the dealer $800, I called my service guy and got the name and number of the installer and went directly to him. Cost me about $400. EXCELLENT WORK! This is not a DIY nor is it something you want to pay the cheapest bid for. Shotty work can turn out looking like that--cheap. Pony up the money, and get it done right. My installer took about 6 hours (if I remember correctly). It is the labor you are paying for not the film. The film is just a few dollars worth (especially is your installer buys in bulk rolls and cut to fit yours).

I live in South Denver called Littleton. I know of two dealerships; Prestige Imports who quote me the $800 and Stevinson Imports ($???). What do you know? B) - rivertiger

I had the front of my 996 recently done for about 400$'s. the guy I used was from just West of Denver and does work for the dealers. I would use him again. Let me know and I'll find the contact info.

I just bought a 2003 Boxster S with a clear bra and just want to make sure I take care of it properly. I'm assuming I should avoid the bra when waxing the rest of the car? Is there any care other than regular washing for the bra?

Depends on which version you may have. The 3M PPF already comes with a clear coat so you needn't worry too much, while the Ventureshield PPF is without (but a better material IMHO). You can wash and wax either one with no problem but watch out for the treatment collecting on the edges. Use a toothpick to run down the length and it clears straight away.

Also, don't use a power wash on them. You may either lift up the edges or score the material leaving obvious marking.

I am in Denver too and heard that IDS on S. Broadway in Littleton is the installer to go to. Has anyone here used IDS?

id rather spend 800 on other things than labor. for that much money u can respray ur bumper or a hood a few times
