I just went for my first smog test for my 2004 996TT and I forgot to tell the technician that it was AWD. I did not notice that he was going to put it on rollers. As I was sitting in the waiting room, I heard a revving then a screeching of tires and a stopped engine. I ran out the garage bay area and noticed that he put it on rollers. ****. I saw skid marks where the front tires were on pavement. I told him it was AWD. He apologized and said he'll pay for everything if there was any damage. He finished the testing, then drove my out around the block to clear all the lights. Everything seems fine. All lights were clear and it seems to drive as before.

My question is, what type of damage could have occurred? And how should I follow up on verification that everything is fine?

I would take it to your dealer or indie and have them inspect the car. Explain what happened at the smog center. Make sure you hold them (the smog center) liable for any repairs...

Your front diff and axles took a pretty bad beating, as did the transmission from all the shock- loading. I'd have the fluid changed in fron diff and rear transaxle. You "might" be ok as they don't run cars to redline during those tests. But it certainly took some life off the drivetrain. Sux man... Sorry to read this.

Its the centre VC that will have taken the most of a beating. If the fluid has overheated then the VC will be compromised even defective. In that case you will have no torque drive to the front wheels. You might not even notice but the car will not benefit from the front wheel drive advantage. Might even feel a little quicker? Get you dealer to do a torque split check to the front diff through the centre VC. Its not hard to do.
