I have a 2001 Boxster S 6sp. Over the last year I have begun to have squeaks from the left front. I have lubricated everything while trying to find the source. I have taken off the wheel and listened while I moved the suspension up and down and the noise seems to be coming from the strut itself. The noise occurs both when the wheels are turned and when the suspension moves up and down. The bushings are good and it does not seem to be coming from the bushings or joints but from the strut itself. It gets worse as you drive more or when it is hot. It is driving me crazy but I do not want to just order new struts without knowing that is the problem. I lubricated the strut mount on top too without a change. Any ideas?

I have the exact problem on my 996 C4.

Not 100% sure but suspect is the rubber from the strut top mount. See Picture below.

A piece of rubber came off.

Can't you just replace the ball joint instead of the control arm?

The Vertex replacement ball joints work only with Vertex control arms according to the website. I noticed that Pelican Parts now caries URO replacement arms. Has anybody had experience with URO parts? My limited experience with tem has been fine.
