Hello,

1999 Carrera 2 tiptronic.

I was wondering if I was was supposed to reset something or what I might have done to get my check engine light on. I changed the oil, brake pads, air filter and within 100 miles, my car check engine light came on. Does anyone know why that might be so. When changing the air filter, I did unplug a sensor on the body of the air filter box. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Lastly my hydrolic fluid resevoir seems low but I don't know what the factory calls for. Could someone tell me or point me in the direction to find out?

Thanks for your answer. I re-plugged it once after the new filter was installed. I checked it after the light came on but it is still on. Thanks for the suggestion.

I would retrace my steps in the removal of the air filter and replacement of the MAF. Since you have a Triptronic make sure that the suction tube that connects to the air intake is securely in place. I would say that it has to be somewhere in the airbox setup for the CEL to come on. Brakes and an oil change would probably not trigger a CEL. I assume that you used an OEM paper filter and not an oiled filter, since an oiled air filter sometimes gunks up the MAF. Again, I would remove the airbox and retrace my steps to check if you forgot to connect something properly. You may have also inadvertantly disconnected something in the process so check all around inside the engine compartment for loose wires or tubes.

Some good advice above. Also check your oil filler tube. If it is original, you may have cracked it when you changed the air filter.

Go to the local auto parts store and have them read the code for free. Post it here and it will be easier for us to tell you where to look.

Hey Folks,

Thanks for helping me on my issues. I went to Advanced and they read my faults. It was P1124 and P1126. He went ahead and erased the codes, so I guess I will wait to see if they come on again. Can you all tell me what those mean. I took my air filter back out again and made sure I re-installed, being more careful. I also checked all fluids and noticed that my coolant was low and topped that off. I opened and closed my gas cap, checked oil level again as well as hydraulic fluid level and everything seems fine. So let me know what you all think I should check as I wait and see if it comes back on.

The codes means engine run too lean on both cylinder banks ( DME on rich threshold), most common problems when working on the filter and intake, are air leaks between MAF and intake manifold and defective MAF.

I forgot to mention the pliable part of the oil filling pipe, there are cracks after repeated use and over time.
