I notice that Mobil 1 is the popular oil of choice here. I believe recommended by Porsche.

I have used Redline in my cars for 30yrs with no oil related problems

Opinions of what you use and why please.

I buy my oil in the 5 gallon pails so the price is decent. Plus it gives me a great recycle container.

Chuck.. Welcome.

Do a search here on oils. This is a very heated debate and has been covered here on endless threads......eek.gif Use the search tool.

For what it's worth I use Castrol fully synthetic 5-40w.

Castrol Syntec 10W40 here...

Why? Apparently, Mobil1 0W40 had its formulation changed a few years ago, so it no longer meets the standard that had Porsche approving it way back when.

Regards, Maurice.

Redline 10-40. Noticeable drop in engine temp when I started using this oil.

phillipj: I had been using the search application, but I realized I was not selecting the box to look only in the title.

I found plenty of threads after that. You might put that as reminder when a person is asking a common question, I kept coming up with all sorts of stuff.

judgejon: After reading all sorts of oil threads, I looked at the oil specs and figured that Redline would work just fine.

Thanks for all the input guys

In my case, Motul 8100 X-Cess, 5W-40. Its Porsche approved, and has performed very well in my '04 986S. There are other good choices out there, and in all honesty most are equal until proven otherwise in scientific testing, which I doubt any user on this forum is prepared to do. Stick with an approved oil and you will be okay. Redline may be fine, and they do make a quality product, but is not specifically approved by Porsche. regards, kwinaz
