Hi,

I have a 2005 997 C2S with the sport suspension and would like to know if it is possible to lower the car to GT3 height. I can imagine that it is possible if I swapped out the sport shocks but is it possible to retain the sport shocks?

Thanks,

Mark

Ok either I asked a very stupid question or no one that has read the post knows. I am going to assume it was a stupid question the way I asked it. Let me try another way. I would like to install the factory GT3 springs on the car but do not know if the sport shocks are compatible. For example are the spring perches the right height or do I have to go with an aftermarket spring?

Mark,

I'm not quite sure I know the answer to your question but I believe that the GT3 springs are different and not compatible with the stock 997 shocks. You might want to call the guys at Suncoast and ask them. The are "mod" savy and can be really helpful. I'm also curious about your question so please update your post if you get an answer.

The 997 S sport shocks have sensors to run at a certain height. You

can lower the car with some other springs. This will cause the

computer to try to raise the car when it is driven. Over time,

the shock will blow out because it is always on.

The better option is to buy new shocks and springs that are

set for a lowered car. Yes this costs more money but you will

not blow out your shock.

Thanks Paul. You are right, it substantially changes the price quite a bit. Do you know of any model 997-1 that would provide that as a factory option/part number? Going aftermarket could be tricky as then you are rolling the dice on spring rate/ride comfort. In looking at feedback on tirerack.com for example, one person that tried the H&R springs said the car was undriveable in his opinion. I realize that ride comfort level is very subjective but I would expect Porsce to take better care in determining the result

Thanks Phillipj. I also thought that perhaps GT3s had adjustable spring perches and given paulspeeds comment on sensor location, that would not allow a sport shock because the sensor location would be fixed.

Mark,

I'm not sure on this.. I'm sure someone with more suspension knowledge than me can confirm or deny their compatability. I just remember that this topic came up before and that the GT3 springs will not work with the 997 sport shocks..

Good luck!

Here is the race setup.

Even the softest JRZ shock is like a truck shock. Going this route

will require you to disconnect the electronic suspension part of

the computer. Any dealer will be able to turn off the suspension

handling package.

Also going this route will require more items. Stronger engine and transmission

mounts and bushings. Stronger suspension arms. More racing parts.
