Wheel Cleaning Question

Hello All,

Proud owner of 2006 Boxster S. Absolutely, the most fun vehicle I have ever owned.

I have the 19" Sport Design wheels on it, and I find them to be the most difficult wheels to clean.

Anyone have any tips or tricks to share? I'm not a big fan of those wheel cleaner sprays they sell at Pep Boys, etc. Just seems like they are too caustic, and don't want to harm the wheels.

Do a search here for "wheel cleaning" and you will find some good suggestions.

I have the older Sport Design wheels and here is what I did.

I removed the wheels from the car and painfully cleaned them until they were spotless.

Then I applied Rejex to the wheels.

Put them back on the car Rejex does not let the dirt and grime stick to wheel surface so basically I just rinse and dry the wheels.

I have the Boxster S II wheels and have used Porsche's wheel cleaning kit which I bought from Pelican Parts. It comes with a couple of brush attachments that make getting to the small places a bit easier. However, you might be able to find cheaper solutions elsewhere but at least you know it won't damage your wheels.

I like Loren's solution a lot. One thing you may try is Simple green. Spray it on and let it sit for 15 minutes before you wash. I'm a fanatic about clean wheels so I never really let them get very dirty.. If you always keep them rellatively clean they are much easier to maintain. Like Loren says do a search. There are lots of good tips....

Use 1/2 & 1/2 simple green and water. Don't let set for 15min. With the water the wheels start to almost self clean. I have Fikse profil 10's. The hardest wheels in the world to clean.

I use P21S wheel cleaner and their car wax. The gel cleaner worked no better than the regular for my not very dirty wheels. The gel was better on our old Grand Cherokee with really dirty wheels.

Thanks to all for the responses. I have been out of town for a while & am just getting back to the site.

Loren, thanks for the reminder on the search feature. I certainly should have tried that first.

I just looked up Rejex, and it looks interesting. Until i can get some, maybe i'll just put a coat of wax on them.
