I'm looking at installing the Child Seat airbag deactivation bar in my 99 Boxster. Do I really have to take this to the dealer for programming or can I disconnect the battery put in the deactivation bar and reconnect the battery?

Yes, there is some minor programming that needs to be done with either a PST2 or PIWIS tester.

There are several members in the bay area that have PST2s and could help. Or if you are over my way I can change it for you.

If you want to go to San Jose I can do it. I will most likely be at the Parts Heaven swap meet in Hayward on June 6th and can do it there.

All, I had this done last month for my 2002 at a Porsche dealer and it is a free install from Porsche for 986's. Check with your dealer and have them speak to their Porsche regional rep if they are unsure.

:welcome:

That will vary from dealer to dealer. Some charge and some don't.

Great thanks for all the info. If the local Fremont Dealer won't do it I'll see if I can meet up with someone.

Actually not if you have the dealer call Porsche. Per Porsche USA, it's free. Both Hennessy and Ellis in Atlanta got same answer from Porsche. Just FYI.

Can a Durametric (Professional cable) and v. 6 of the software change the settings for the "Child Seat Airbag Deactivation Bar"?

If so, can anyone out there provide a step-by-step procedure for changing this setting? Thanks very much.
