Just picked up our new (to us) 2003 S.

Got home and my wife discovered the horn does not horn anybody (she is bummed)

Pulled out the owners manual, checked the fuse, I can hear a relay under the dash when

pushing on the horn (the relay sound goes away when the fuse is pulled).

I am working on getting a manual to be able to know what is where in the car.

Trouble shooting ideas appreciated.

Thanks

Chuck

Welcome to the family! Check eBay or amazon, or half.com and find a Bently's Manual for your boxster. If the relay clicks, it might just be the horn unplugged, or the thing went bad. It should also sound on alarm fault, try leaving the console or glovebox door open then lock the door with the remote to se if it beeps. Or, try setting off the alarm and see if it honks.

let us know what you find, I'm sure someone else will chime in with ideas.

It's good news that you can hear the relay click - the horn pad and wiring issues are a pain if the problem lies there.

Remove the front bumper and replace the horns. They are very cheap (like $10 each). Here's some instructions on how to easily remove the front bumper and get to the horns (located on the passenger side): http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/68-BODY-Front_Bumper_-_Wheel_Liner/68-BODY-Front_Bumper_-_Wheel_Liner.htm

Thanks for the input on the manual, Found a Bentley on Half.com for $55.

Upgrade the horns? Vendor? Options, Which horns?

Thanks for the Pelican write up, makes removing the bumper look fairly easy.

Finally got the horns and the time to fix them.

Pulled the front end off, only missed two screws (hmmm...does not come off)

these were the the two on the outside, set in to an indentation.

Pulled the radiator ducting off (both side), there was a ton of debris in there.

R&R'd the horns but they did not work, checked the voltage at the horn. Got 0.5v,

they would try to make noise. Found the #1 relay panel with my Bentley manual

pulled the relay out shook it and reinstalled, no good.

Noticed that there were quite a few similar relays down there. Swiped one from another system and the

horn worked.

At least taking the bumper off is now not a big deal and the Bentley was good to have.

Loren I was not aware of the Amazon page when I bought the Manual, but I did become a contributor as

I always appreciate having a resource like this site.

Thanks

Chuck
