Hello Folks...,

I just sold yesterday my 1999 Boxster to a friend.I hope he will stay my friend for a long time...we'll see...Ha Ha Ha!!!!

My question is that now i'm looking for a 2005 Boxster 987-1 model.

I would like to know if the car suffer from the same problem as the 986 engine...RMS, IMS, key barrel and al....

Rumor is the 2005 is even worse for the IMS, however there is also a rumor

that for some owners Porsche has been contributing to replacing the engines on 2005's.

Best bet would be to price in either an IMSR or a aftermarket warranty or both!

You might get a better response if you post your question on the 987 forum.

From what I've read there are less of the 986 issues with the 987, but the cars aren't as old, so time will tell...

According to Jake Raby at Flat6Innovations, who did the IMS bearing retrofit on my '02 S, he's seen some IMS failures on '05 987's. I think I read (and I think he told me) you'd be better off going for an '06+.

Hi,Well I have got 06  987 now at 51000km with just normal servicing every two years at Porsche with new front rotors and pads all round, and one new set of tyres, that is all so far. In fact my last car was a 01 986 and that was just the same, dam good cars. You need to drive them every day, all year like I do.
