I bought a CPO 2004 CTT in June of 2008 with approximately 40K miles. It has been pretty much buller proof with the exception of the following issues:

  • The TPMS acts up so I have just disabled it in the menu settings (it says that I have low tire pressure when everything is OK- classic false negative)

  • I had to replace the hatch struts as they would not hold in cold weather (this was not covered under warranty) Was about $400 to replace

  • There was a problem with the injectors which was replaced under warranty

It now has about 56K miles. Is there anything that you can think of that I should have replaced while I still have the warranty? My dealer is pretty cool and fortunatley works with me on these sort of issues (would be the reason why I would buy from him next time

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW - Enclosed is a picture of my CTT on my recent return from Florida back to NYC. Amazing how people get out of the left lane when you approach them at 100 mph with a roof full of bikes/carrier. Jethro of the Beverly Hillbilly's would have been proud

Regards - Steve

Your dealer may be pretty cool but overpriced. You can buy a set of Stabilus or Bilstein struts for $100 and they are a very easy R&R in about 15 min. Good luck, Robert.

Each rear door strut has an MSRP of $64.72 each.

Porsche book time (labor) is 1.66 hours.

So at 'dealer rates' Steve paid the going rate.

This is not a 15 minute job several pieces of trim need to be removed to get access to the rear door hatch struts mounting points. I would say perhaps 1 hour plus for a DIY'er. I covered this in the DIY here.

I am sure Sunset Imports can get a much better price than $64 each for the struts - which by the way have been upgraded 3 times according to the parts list. So chances are you are getting a better strut today.

Steve, I would have the coils checked for cracks even though you didn't mention the check engine light or a misfire. Also have the driveshaft bearings checked for wear. And was the coolant pipe repair already done? And that pesky ventilation system... if your's isn't in top condition have them replace the actuator solenoids under the dash. Mostly all the usual stuff everyone who owns an '04 with over 50K mileage already has done. And my personal experience is that PCNA would not discuss any of these issues with me after my car reached 50K.

Tim - Thanks for the insight. I will bring this up with my dealer when I see him early next month. I will also post how my conversation goes with the dealer as well as the end result.

Does your warrantee just replace parts when you ask? (would be nice). Otherwise, I would replace gradually the items mentioned in this trail.

As an update, I had the work done on my car this past week. They did the bearings/drive shaft under the CPO warranty. However they were not able to do the coolant tubes as they said that there was no sign of any leakage. If they would have replaced them anyway under warranty, they said that they could have gotten in trouble with Porsche NA. Also the AC system is not under CPO warrantee so I did not get the solenoid work done (the AC works like the day I got it)

On the issue of the coolant tubes, do they start leaking (or any other form of acting up) before they decide to self-destruct?

Thanks

The first sign I got was a low coolant warning on the display. I would add water and it would run out under the engine bay as fast as I added it. It will be sudden and severe when it happens to your car. Admittedly it never overheated past 3/4 on the guage even though I drove it for a couple of days like that, just adding water frequently. Not sure why.

Hope this helps.

Tim - My coolent tubes went about a year ago. I guess that I should have pushed the mechanic harder to get the work done under warrantee :(

Can you not get the TPMS sensors replaced? The batteries are probably low causing the bad readings.

Sorta off topic but on what highway can you do 100mph? That's like going 160km/h!
