Just wondering if it is possible to tell through obervation if the ballast reisitor is bad. My dilema is this, RHS fan not working when A/C is on, however I recently replaced NS radiator and am wondering if there is any possibilty I've messed somthing up.

I now there is a hack but on RHD cars the two relays aren't as easy to access so I'm worried about shorting somthing out. I have checked the fan and its ok, ran a 12v supply to it. If the reisitor is in series and is there only to provide a slow running cycle for the fan can I bypass it with a parallel connection? if it works I know its the resistor? you thoughts appreciated.

Hi Maurice, thanks for that, I've seen this before, problem is in the RHD cars the 2 relays aren't as easy to get to and at £60 a pop I wanted to see if there was another way to be sure it was the resistor.

Don't know if the relay tray is in the same (but opposite side) location, but when I had to rewire some terminals behind the relay tray I found it relatively easy to access the area of those four relays by FIRST removing the black plastic panel that surrounds the fuse block.

I have instructions on how to do that on Mike Focke's Boxster pages, in the section on Tops, and more specifically the write-up on how to install an OEM glass windowed convertible top on the early Boxsters (97-99). I think it's in section III, which describes the wiring process behind the relay tray.
