Hi,

I really can't believe it what my Porsche-dealer said this week ...

He told me, that NO wheels of the first two generations of the Cayenne (955, 957) can be mounted on the new 958!

If that is true, I have a big problem with my brand new winter tire/wheels-combination I already own ...

Does somebody know more about this topic?

Any info appreciated!

Best Regards from Germany ...

Thomas

From the parts list all the 958 wheels have 958 part numbers.

The offsets look similar but not quite the same.

I would ask you dealer 'why'...

Hi Loren,

Now it is fact. NO old Cayenne wheels fit the new Cayenne!

I asked another technician from Porsche. He told me the same story ...

The explanation from them seems rediculous for me. They state, that because of the complete new design and weight-distribution of the car the load capacity of the wheels also changed.

The new car is lighter than the old one. So this would be a advantage for the old wheels.

I personally think, that this all is a part of a new marketing strategy.

Nevertheless...

No chance of using wheels of gen. 1 and 2 on the new Cayenne ...

Bye,

Thomas

P.S.: I get my new Cayenne next monday jump.gif ...

Dear Flying Bob, I have bought some old Cayenne 19 inch wheels for my new Cayenne (due end July).

With the benefit of having both a new Cayenne plus your old Cayenne wheels, have you been able to confirm if Porsche are correct, or if they are just looking to make money on wheel upgrades?

As someone who seems to understand some of the technical intracacies - what is the actual problem with fitting old wheels to new Cayennes?

Very Best Regards,

WhiskyCorner

As flying Bob pointed out ... by Porsche's rational .. the older wheels can handle more weight ... so the should be fine with the older stronger heavier wheels ... provided they fit. By the same Porsche Tech reasoning maybe do not use the new generation wheels on the older models.

I have been running my wife's new model Cayenne Diesel for a couple of weeks with a set of 19 inch (on 275 45 19 N1 Pirellis) old model Cayenne alloys.

There were no problems fitting them on the vehicle - correct match to bold holes. no fouling of brake calipers, and no apparent contact at extremes of sterring lock.

Also, there are no apparent issues when driving on the wheels. My only comment would be that there seems to be a (very) slight increase in road noise (and this may be due to the well worn (but legal) 19inch tyres that were on the wheels.

All the Best,

John

I have used old 18" turbo wheels on my hybrid with no issues for the past two winters. IIRC, the hybrid and old CS are about the same weight.

This kind of Porsche BS makes me crazy... I have heard similiar crud from my techs about my car on various issues. All of them turning out to be falsehoods... I guess they think we are really stupid....

I want to buy a used set of Cayenne 2011-2013 18" rims with winter tires for my 05 Cayenne Turbo to go skiing. Is this going fit or cause any problems?

Too bad you're not closer to me.. I have a nice set of '06 Sport-Design 19" rims with Pirelli Scorpion snows that I'd like to sell.. they would go right on your Cayenne, and look better then the one above to boot..

BTW - I don't believe 18" will clear the Turbo brakes. 19" will.

OK, I went to look at the wheels, they fit just fine and clear the brakes. Offsets look about the same as the current rims, although the 18" rims looks far too small for the car after running around on 20"s. I have no idea why Porsche says they don't fit the earlier cars.
