Dealer tech worked on it for a while, no luck. Thought it was the rear firewall area behind the seats, tightened up a few things.

It is not the window, and does not seem to be coming from inside the rear interior quarter panel (had those noises in my old '99 Cab). Also does not seem to be either rear or driver's window. Can hold pressure on all these areas and noise is still there.

More of an annoying clicking sound than rattle.

Are there some TSB's on an '04 C4S Cab with a rattle from the rear? Everything seems tight as a tick, but nothing is working so far.

Seems to be near the higher side of the vehicle, not down low in the seats.

Thanks in advance.

Eric, I doubt it is related but I had a strange rattle when I bought my 99 C2. It sounded like it was coming from the passenger side rear speaker enclosure. I spent a good week trying to figure it out. In the end the noise was coming from the passenger side front fender. The bolt that attaches the fender near the rear bottom of the fender (near the bottom front of the passenger side door) was just a bit loose and would vibrate above certain speeds. The sound was transmitted and magnified through the rocker panel like a tuba to the rear quarter panel.

I had a problem like this once when I replaced the dash speakers.

Turned out the depth of the new speakers was just too deep and the flexing

of the car would cause them to bottom out on the car's frame. I changed the

speakers again to Focals and the clicking/tapping noise went away.

If you have played wit your dash speakers then the problem may be there.

Another thing you might like to try is to remove the dash pod and then replace it again.

Found it!

The leather side panel where it meets the rear firewall (behind the back seat, driver's side). Not sure yet what the fix will be, but located the source at least. Thanks.

I'd just stick some felt tape (comes in 15 and 25mm width from Porsche) on the surface where is touches. I must have used about half a mile of felt tape in my car, but now it's quiet.

Cheers,

Uwe

I had a similar problem with my 99 C2 coupe, I am not sure if yours has similar panels but from your description of the noise it sounds as though it may be the same problem. With mine I found that one of the metal spring clips that holds the trim in place had been bent over instead of pushing through the aperture in the body. Loren sent instructions on how to remove the panels.

There is also a 9-page TSB "Noises in the Trim Panel Area" that deals with this stuff in quite a bit of detail.

Eric --

I've been having the same problem on my '04 C4s and it's driving me crazy. The car has only 1000 miles on it and I've had it at in the shop three times -- they still couldn't fix the sound. My rattle/clicking is on both driver and passenger side -- it occurs at lower speeds when I go over small bumps. It almost sounds like a b.b. hitting metal -- or like a ball bearing is stuck somewhere inside the car. But I just can't place it. At first I thought it was the windows -- and they've replaced them (as it turns out they were rattling as well.) Now I'm at a loss as to how to attack this -- does this sound similar to your problem? Anybody have any thoughts?

I'm not really all that technically minded -- I just found this site and saw this posting and finally saw someone sharing my pain.
