Hi there,

I am a newly registered but have been following Renntech for quite some time now and have found a wealth of information on here to help me over the years and with my engine conversions on the 986's.

I have a bit of a problem with my standard 1999 2.5 manual Boxster. The rev counter basically has a mind of its own. upon start up its fine, the needle registers as it should bit after a few mins driving it goes bad.

The needle starts to stick and does not operate smoothly and also tens to stick where ever it wants to .ie when the car is idle the needle sticks at maybe 4000 rpm or sometimes in at 6000 rpm.

Engine and all seems fine and drives well..........just the rev needle doesnt work as it should.

Has anyone had any similar problems at all? Can anyone help in shedding any light on how to fix the problem please..............do I actually have to go down the route of a replacement cluster or is there an easy fix at all?

Any help would be much appreciated.

The needle could be binding on the bezel.

Using a magnifying glass and good lighting, try to see if the needle is centered on the bezel's opening.

If it's not the bezel could have shifted.

If it has, remove the cluster, open it and adjust the bezel.

I had to do this on a customer's car.

Hi,
I have the same problem and would like to try opening the cluster.
Do you have any photos or more in depth description on how to proceed once the cluster is out?
I would like to have as much info available as possible before starting on this project.
