Hello fellow enthusiasts

I made my first Porsche purchase a few weeks ago and was thinking about some possible upgrades, or hacks, if you will. After perusing through these forums a few days there were a lot of ideas I would really like to attempt to work out. First off, I have a 2000 Boxster base model. Silver with black interior and top. Some of the smaller things I was thinking about doing was converting those hard plastic arm rests on the doors into padded ones. Someone posted a thread on here about it and it was pretty cheap and easily do-able. Some of the other things I was thinkin about doing are light upgrades. HID headlights(5k) and LED tail lights. The biggest project I would really like to add would be a DVD navigation system like the Kenwood DNX-6140. But due to the expense and extent of work, I have to make that more of a long term project.

I do have one question for maintenance of my car. Driving on the GA roads, there is quite a bit of loose gravel. What is the best way to repair all the little paint chips? They're all over and while I'm waxing my car I notice them all and it looks terrible. Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.

Let me know what y'all think.

Here is a link that will be extremely helpful to you...

Regarding paint chips... There are many kits available but I have not heard of great success with any of them. I think most of us just get a body shop to fix them (re-spray) and then get the 3M "clear bra" . It's pricey but a lot less expensive than repainting your front bumper, hood and fenders repeatedly.

Hope this helps!!

Here are some upgrades or hacks I've done to the families 01 base you might be interested in for your car:

-997 shifter housing install

-996 heat exchanger/oil cooler

-GT3 3rd rad install

-Fabspeed cat bypass pipes

-De-snork the intake

-installed a 03/04 "S" muffler

-you might consider upgrading the drive train mounts, especially the motor as Porsche has improved it.

-upgraded to new style AOS

Well, you get the idea. Best of luck with the car.

phillipj thanks a ton for the Pedros Garage website, some really helpful things on there!

Por911, I'm not the most mechanically inclined person in the world. The de-snorkel mod sounded easy enough from the thread I read somewhere on here and the 3rd rad install would be nice, but I don't think I'm that knowledgable and don't really want to cut into my front bumper without knowing what I'm doing. I was thinking about a short shift kit, though. I don't like having to reach way out in front of me to grab the stick when it's in 3rd or 5th. Exhaust is at the very bottom of my list. I don't have access to any type of metal shop equipment and I'm not very knowing about that either.

i did the dvd /sat nav install a few weeks back, changed door speakers and dash speakers also, did the whole project for under £250. i got one of the 2 din systems from ebay sent over from china and although i was a bit wary it turned out to be a bargain! £130 including delivery. the whole install took about a day, just do a little research on renntech first and its a surprisingly easy job. If you decide to tackle it, message me and ill send you some helpful links.

Short shifter upgrade was the first mod I did to mine when I got it. The throw is shorter (hence the name laugh.gif ) but it is also a little tighter. I had it done at the dealer and I believe it was a re-branded B&M shifter. From what I read, it's not a hard DIY, probably moderate level if you are inclined and have the time. I really like the feeling of the short shift kit.

The next mod was the clear front side markers and clear/red tail lights. Dead easy. Perhaps an hour for all four with 75% time fooling around.

The HID lights are nice but 5K seems like a lot of money for lights, perhaps the short shift kit and a Mediterranean / Carribean cruise.

Soopster

When I said 5k, I was talking about the intensity of the bulb, hehe. They go from 3k, 4.3k, 5k, 6k, 8k and 10k getting bluer as the intensity increases. :P I definitely don't have 5 grand to spend on lights or anything for that matter...I wish

Well I still think 5k is better spent on a vacation clapping.gif ! Didn't know they had that many different intensities. cursing.gif

Even though I majored in Physics at first for University, I still think light is just light.

Have fun! It's just spring up here, so the Boxsters are just starting to come out ...
