I recently replaced the starter and then I had a CEL. After taking the vehicle to a local European car mechanic, he located the vaccuum leak with a smoke machine and told me that I broke the power brake booster fitting while installing the starter and so the reason for the CEL. OK, he replaced that fitting a week ago. So now I'm getting the CEL again and I took the car back this morning to check the error code. Now this mechanic is saying that the CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY should be updated to the newer style. This "KIT" consist of a SHUT OFF VALVE, HOSE, AIR TUBE, and DISTRIBUTOR HOUSING. Total cost $ 900.00 Is this true that the older 996's should be retrofitted with this new style emission configuration? My plan is to order a Durametric and really check the codes for myself. Does anyone have the actual part numbers that I need for the parts described? How much of a big deal is this job going to be? Does it sound right? Is it common?
