I have a 99 C2 with 19inch I-Forged Daytona's on it. The rears are 19x9. I currently run 295-30-19 in the rear but had a scraping problem. The car is also lowered with H&R springs (1.25 drop). The problem is the car will "bottom out" and the tires scrape inside the inner fender and cut into the sidewall of the tires. I was wondering if a 285 tire would help with this problem. I am in need of new tires and want to make the best choice, all opinions welcome. Thanks guys

Your car was never intended to have 19" wheels.

Even some of the early 996's had to have rear inner fender cut back (there is a TSB on this) to fit 18" wheels.

I do know a 295/30 x 18 will fit most of the early cars without modifications.

Yea someone else told me that as well. I have no idea how a TSB works with a 99 Carrera. Is it too late to do anything? The car has 85k on it. Thanks again Loren as always

Loren, kind of a dumb question but going from a 295 to 285 is not going to make the tire "stick out" any less correct? Thats based on the offset of the wheel, correcT?

i have a 19 inch wheels on my 99 C4. I need new ones and also looking to purchase some cost friendly and good quality rears so this thread is in good timing. I currently ride the Victor Lemans 19 inch rims. No issues with fender scraping or such..but mine is not lowered.

I need a tire guide..or go to tire school or something.

Street only 19 inch, summer/fall driving only - whats the best bang for the buck?

285 or 295 is the tread width.

Yes, offset is important - perhaps if you state the wheels offset someone can suggest a workable solution.

FWIW.

I am running 19x11 rims on my 02 Targa (C2). Unfortunately I do not know the offset. No problems with rubbing.

I would actually prefer to drop back to 18" rims in order to get the car's balance closer to what Porsche intended. The rear end sticks really well but the car understeers a bit more than I would like.

The car has PS2s with the following sizes:

315 25 zr19 (rear)

235 35 zr19 (front)

From what I have read on this forum, 295 30zr19 are more common.

No significant issues however the wheels stick out a tiny bit too far from the fenders, and I actually just scraped the rear rims on a curb today since the rim hits the curb before the rubber does :-(

I am suprise to see the close prices of re050 and re11s in the states I am running bs re050as on my gt3 which are relatively grippy but takes a little time to get to temp and is not very good in slightly wet conditions they also tend to produce a fair amour of tyre dust so not ideal if you have a light coloured car.

I have used ad08s from y'hama on my evo before and they worked wonders there, but I'd go for a set if Y'hama A048 or A050s if they are available in the US. You will not e disappointed with these Japanese racing compound tyres!!

Hi Loren,

Sorry from changing the topic, but do you know if rear rims 18x10 et 48 will fit my 996 C-2 coupe? I know the OEM is 18x10 et 65 and the new offset will push the rim out 17 mm (about .6 of an inch). Will this stick out too far?

I have a '02 C2 996 with Champion RG5 19" running Mich Pilot Sport N1 235/35 Front and 290/30 rear , H&R Sport Springs , Bilstein Sport shocks and struts no problems with tire rub on the body or wheel wells.

Most of the bottoming out issues were solved with the Bilstein sport installation as the stock struts and shocks were made for the stock springs.

My car handles like a dream now, just more road noise with those big tires.
