Ac/heater Blower Motor Removal

I have a 1999 996 C2 6sp and I can hear a slight rubbing noise coming from my blower motor as it winds down when I shut the ignition off. It sounds as if the cage is rubbing or maybe a piece of paper or something got sucked in there. I've got a manual but it is vague and wondering if there might be anything to watch out for. Thanks.

Chances are you have either debris or weatherstripping caught in the intakes.

If you go in through the pollen filter opening in the front trunk you can likely grab the debris. Several threads here on folks with the same issue.

Clean as a whistle. I called it wrong though. It is not my ac blower. It is some type of cabin air fan, maybe fresh air as required in U.S. Any help?

The AC and heater share the same fan - there is only one.

Perhaps a flashlight and mirror so you can see what if anything is caught in there. As I said, this is fairly common - more so in older cars.

This is another motor of some sort that I can hear directly under the pass. side dash. It comes on and off with the ignition like a fresh ais blower. I removed the pollen filter and used a flashlight and it is not the blower in there. I'm sure I can find it, just looking for any hints and tips that could make it easier.

I took the foam insulation out from under the pass. side dash. The sound is coming from the region of the pass. dash air bag. Right in there. It is a motor sound like a fan blade slightly rubbing. Come on guys,as I get a little squemish when I have to mess with air bags. Help me out.

Thanks for the write-up but I'm still a little confused. As I see it the fresh air blower that is shown in the pic as #4 is the one under the pollen filter. This is not what I'm hearing. What I hear is coming directly from behind the pass. side dash air bag and is not a solenoid but sounds like a fan because I can hear it wind down when I shut the key off. I looked at the other blower#4 and it's doesn't run with the controls shut off but this runs when the ignition is in the on. HELP!

I got out my stethoscope and the noise is coming from behind the pass. side dash air vent. I can push on the vent and vary the noise. I guess I'll pull the vent and see what's there.

Use the minus button on the HVAC controls and turn the HVAC (and fan) off. It will show "oFF" in the display when it is off.

It has a little motor with fan which can make noise .

Rob001 gets the prize though I found it before I read the thread. It must have a little fan in it which sucks in interior air for the sensor. The little sucker is vibrating and making noise. It is vibrating at the connector but I think I can dampen it without having to but a new one. You guys are all right! I really appreciate the help. Thanks,Robert.

One final note on this one. I took out the sensor, unclipped the electrical connector off the back and removed the two torx screws holding the back of the motor housing together. This exposes the circuit board and blower shaft and a little bronze oil lite bushing. Sewing machine oil would have been perfect but not having any I used good ole Mobil One. It quieted 90%. I can hear it when it starts but not the old wind down I used to. I'll have to start taking photos. Thanks for the help guys as I'm sure this part is not cheap.
