Im about to purchase a 996 turbo and i would like to lower it to the factory option -20 mm suspension , can any of you give me any ideas on if i just need springs or do i need to buy a full suspension package , im not really bothered about how it handles just the after the lowered look , i would like to keep the ride quality as good as possible tho ... ive been told by porsche that they only do a lowering kit for 2003+ cars and im looking into a 02 at the moment , any help is much appriceiated thanks... richie

Richie,

If you want it just for looks go for H & R springs, I have done it on my car and it does not compromise ride quality.

Good luck.

Porsche offers the X73 sport suspension package which lowers the car around 20mm all around but it is, as I understand, a bit stiffer than what you have now. It can be fitted to all 996 turbo's so who ever told you that it won't, is mistaken. The other option is to fit a set of Bilstein pss9 coil-overs and the ones I like are made by RUF. The car actually felt more comfortable than stock. The labor charge for changing only the springs is the same as going for one of the above options so it doesn't make sense to pay all that expense for only springs. I have heard of horror stories involving changing just the springs, but that is only true of US spec cars, not the ROW cars so it is really up to you.
